In 2023, conflicts and crisis across the globe placed people at even greater risk of torture and ill-treatment.

To respond to these ongoing and future challenges, strengthening the anti-torture community is key.

Association for the Prevention of Torture 2023 Annual Report showcases the results of their joint efforts:

• More than 80 national human rights institutions signed on to the Kyiv-Copenhagen Declaration, which stresses the importance of prevention, transparency and safeguards.
• We joined forces with five other anti-torture organisations to form the United Against Torture Consortium and will support partners globally to grow the movement for a torture-free world.
• There is new dynamism for OPCAT implementation in Africa, with two regional conferences by OHCHR, supported by APT, as well as the establishment of a regional network of National Preventive Mechanisms.
