Amendment to Decree No. 14310 of 11 February 1949 (Prison Regulations)

The President of the Republic,
Having regard to the Constitution;
Having regard to the Code of Criminal Procedure, in particular Article 424 thereof;
Having regard to Decree No. 14310 of 11 February 1949 (Prison Regulations), in particular Articles 77 and 78 thereof;
Upon the proposal of the Minister of the Interior;
After consultation with the Council of State (Opinion No. 108 of 26 August 1992);
Following the approval of the Council of Ministers at its meeting of 16 December 1992;
Hereby decrees as follows:
Article 1
Articles 77 and 78 of Decree No. 14310 of 11 February 1949 (Prison Regulations) are repealed and replaced by the following provisions:
Article 77
The quantities and types of food to be provided daily to each prisoner shall be determined as follows:
Category One
- Labneh or cheese: 100 grams, four times per week, with one cup of tea.
- Jam or halva: 100 grams, three times per week, with one cup of tea.
Category Two
- Legumes and cereals: 150 grams daily, consisting of one or more of the following: beans, peas, rice, lentils, chickpeas, dried broad beans, and bulgur.
Category Three
- Fresh beef: 150 grams, twice per week.
- Fresh chicken: 200 grams, twice per week.
Category Four
- Potatoes: 300 grams per week.
- Pasta: 100 grams every two weeks.
- Two eggs per week.
- Arabic bread: 500 grams daily.
Category Five
- Vegetables: 180 grams daily, consisting of one or more of the following: tomatoes, zucchini, green beans, eggplant, green peas, Swiss chard, spinach, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, and peas.
Category Six
- Olive oil, vegetable oil or vegetable shortening, and sugar: 150 grams daily of each.
- Tahini and tea: 5 grams daily of each.
Category Seven
- Salt, spices, onions, tomato paste, lemon, garlic, and coriander, as required for the preparation of meals.
Category Eight
- Fruit: 100 grams daily, consisting of one or more of the following: apples, oranges, bananas, and grapes.
Article 78
The daily quantities specified in the preceding article need not be observed on a daily basis, provided that each prisoner receives the total weekly quantities prescribed therein.
These food items shall be used to prepare three meals per day in accordance with a weekly meal schedule established in advance by the prison governor, specifying the meals and the quantities of ingredients used.
Article 2
This Decree shall be published and communicated wherever necessary.
