The National Human Rights Commission of Lebanon, including the Committee for the Prevention of Torture, received at its headquarters on Sami El Solh Avenue in Beirut a Qatari delegation comprising His Excellency Mr Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Secretary General of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar and Secretary General of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, headquartered in Doha, along with members Saif Al Yafei, Hamad Al Marzouqi, and Ghaffar Al Ali, Legal Advisor to the Network.
The delegation was received by Dr Fadi Gerges, President of the Commission, Judge Khalil Abou Rjeily, President of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Vice President of the Commission, Dr Rana Al Jammal, Secretary General, Ali Youssef, Treasurer and Commissioner for Complaints, Professor Fadl Daher, Commissioner for Studies and Monitoring and Commissioner for Education and Development, lawyer Raymond Madlaj, member of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture, and Bassam Al Kantar, Commissioner for International Relations and Commissioner for Media and Information.

The meeting witnessed the signing of a letter accepting the in-kind grant provided by the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar and the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions. The grant includes equipment for the Commission’s headquarters, including computers, media equipment, furniture, and office supplies, with a total value of thirty thousand US dollars.
In this context, the Secretary General of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, Sultan Al Jamali, praised the role played by the National Human Rights Commission of Lebanon, expressing the readiness of the Network and the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar to support accreditation processes, training programmes, and the continuation of joint activities, particularly conferences, workshops, and training sessions in Beirut.
For his part, Dr Fadi Gerges thanked the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar and the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, affirming that this support complements the generous and ongoing assistance provided by the State of Qatar to various Lebanese state institutions, strengthening and consolidating the fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries.
Dr Gerges also welcomed the initiative of Her Excellency Ms Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar, supporting the project to rehabilitate and develop the Juvenile Detention Centre in Warwar, and to train the team responsible for juvenile detention administration in Lebanon, given its direct impact on strengthening children’s rights and humane detention standards.
In conclusion, the President of the Commission welcomed the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, for the official inauguration ceremony of the Commission’s headquarters, scheduled to be held on 12 February, with the participation of the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar and the Secretary General of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, Mr Sultan Al Jamali, in a milestone reflecting the depth of Arab partnership in supporting human rights and strengthening the work of national institutions.
