{"id":5210,"date":"2024-04-30T11:01:54","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T08:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nhrclb.org\/?p=5210"},"modified":"2026-03-19T11:03:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T09:03:39","slug":"association-for-the-prevention-of-torture-releases-2023-annual-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nhrclb.org\/en\/archives\/5210","title":{"rendered":"Association for the Prevention of Torture Releases 2023 Annual Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2023, conflicts and crisis across the globe placed people at even greater risk of torture and ill-treatment.<\/p>\n<p>To respond to these ongoing and future challenges,\u00a0<strong>strengthening the anti-torture community is key<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apt.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Association for the Prevention of Torture<\/a>\u00a02023\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nhrclb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/APT-annual-Report-2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Annual Report<\/a>\u00a0showcases the results of their joint efforts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than 80 national human rights institutions signed on to the Kyiv-Copenhagen Declaration, which stresses the importance of prevention, transparency and safeguards.<\/li>\n<li>We joined forces with five other anti-torture organisations to form the United Against Torture Consortium and will support partners globally to grow the movement for a torture-free world.<\/li>\n<li>There is new dynamism for OPCAT implementation in Africa, with two regional conferences by OHCHR, supported by APT, as well as the establishment of a regional network of National Preventive Mechanisms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cOur 2023 Annual Report highlights many more APT initiatives at the international, regional and national levels, all of which help strengthen the torture prevention community.\u201d said Barbara Bernath APT Secretary General.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2023, conflicts and crisis across the globe placed people at even greater risk of torture and ill-treatment.
